This started as an absolutely mad idea. How could I give something back to a neighborhood that’s given me roots. Wait, let’s backtrack. I grew up an Air Force kid, moving all across the country, every two years. I always thought I’d be a nomad with no fixed address. Till I reached Bandra, 23 years back. And boom, it was love. But that’s not new, is it? I’m sure so many of you feel the same way. Bandra is our Hotel California. You can never leave. Not in your heart and head for sure. In the last couple of years, that’s the question I’ve incessantly chewed on. What is it about Bandra? What makes it so special? Why does everyone feel so strongly about it? I’ve documented, recorded oral history, chatted with people and wandered through every by-lane hoping to find an answer. And I’ve come to the conclusion that there isn’t one. There are multiple answers and they lie scattered all over Bandra. Some point towards its history, some towards its geography and some towards the people who make up this neighbourhood. And so this anthology is really an attempt to put together all those facets, all those clues, all those reasons why we love Bandra.
